‘The Last Man on Earth’ Season 2 Episode 10 Recap: Gail Does Emergency Surgery
For those who have not seen the last episode of "The Last Man on Earth," you need to be warned that there are some major spoilers ahead. Let's just say that the show turned into a drama last minute.
If you're still reading, then you obviously want to know what happened in the last episode, Episode 10. The show has been billed as a comedy and there was plenty of comedy in the episode to keep fans roaring with laughter. But there were some key moments at the end, which held the swagger of a drama.
For those who remembered what was going on in the previous episode, Phil was having a little trouble with his health. According to Entertainment Weekly, when this episode opened up, fans found out that he has a severe case of appendicitis. In the regular world, that is no big deal. In the post-apocalyptic world where there are no doctors, that is nearly a death sentence.
The only real treatment for the condition is to remove the appendix, as Gail quickly figures out. But there are no doctors or surgeons around anymore, so that leaves the call for treatment (and surgery) with her.
Some of the funniest moments of the episode was when Tandy and Todd go searching for a cadaver for her to practice on, but they almost bring Gordon's dead body back for her to use as a dummy. That could have been really devastating for Gail.
There was also a parallel going on with Mike on the space station. He had decided to simply make a break for it with his pet worm, which he named Phil. He exited the space station on a descent module to get back down to Earth.
In the final moments of the episode, fans could see that things were going wrong for Phil in surgery and also for Mike on his descent. The episode closed out with Mike's craft breaking up in the atmosphere and it seemed as though he was going to die. The scene jumped back to Phil on the operating table with the sound of a flatline coming from the monitor.
