'Unravel' Release Date & Trailer: EA's New PS4, Xbox One, PC Game Coming in February; 'Yarny' Unveiled in Teaser
For players who are seeking something that's fun to play with a heart-warming storyline, EA Games is offering a new game called "Unravel". A new story trailer was recently released by the developer, which provides a glimpse of the stunning game environment and adorable character that's designed to endear players of all ages and consoles.
The unlikely hero of the adventure game is "Yarny," a character spun from yarn who ventures outside to face obstacles of varying difficulty. According to a report from PlayStation Lifestyle, the developer described "Unravel" as "a game all about overcoming obstacles, both big and small."
The description continued, "Using Yarny's small thread and big heart, players will traverse through the breath-taking, lush environments of Northern Scandinavia in this unique physics-based puzzle platformer. Some challenges are simple, like using Yarny's thread to swing across a gap, or rappel down a tree. But others are more complex, and players will need to use Yarny's thread in clever and creative ways to find the path forward."
Creative director Martin Sahlin also talked about the upcoming indie puzzle game in the report from PlayStation Lifestyle, giving players an idea about the vision of the creators for the quirky and heart-melting title.
"Gaming is a powerful platform, able to inspire players and touch their hearts," Sahlin explained the driving force of the game in the statement. "With 'Unravel', we're hoping to do just that. Yarny's quest is to mend broken bonds and the yarn represents the love and connection between people. Along the way, we'll test your cleverness with environment-based puzzles inspired by our home in Northern Sweden."
Sahlin has previously talked to GameSpot after the successful introduction of "Unravel" during EA's E3 2015 press conference. The executive discussed weaving in the emotional themes of the story with polished gameplay, saying the elements connected strongly in the final game.
"I think what's important is that we leave it in the hands of players, so we don't try to shove it down people's throats," Sahlin said about the concepts of love and connection in the plot. "Because then it would probably risk ending up just sentimental and just kinda lame."
He added, "Our approach is to make it this thing where if you don't care, you can play through it and enjoy it and have fun with it, but if you do care you will have thousands of little hooks to just notice."
"Unravel" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC is set to be released as a digital title on Feb. 9, 2016.
