Hillary Clinton to Guest Star on Comedy Central’s ‘Broad City’
Rarely does a politician of Hillary Clinton's caliber guest-star on a scripted TV series or film. But Season 3 of "Broad City" will include the Democratic presidential frontrunner with a guest appearance that will likely boost the show's ratings.
According to Deadline, Clinton has been confirmed as a guest star on the show, which is executive produced by Amy Poehler.
Poehler is perhaps best known for her work on "Saturday Night Live," ironically impersonating Hillary Clinton over her tenure.
The show plays off its titular name and features two women who are broke and trying to make a life for themselves in New York. It's a familiar theme that has played out on many TV shows over the years as well as in film, most notably in romantic comedies.
The show was originally a web series created by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, who are also Upright Citizens Brigade alums. They both are also the stars of the show, which Comedy Central picked up for a series.
Season 2 of the show was so well-received by network executives that it got a Season 3 renewal before it even started airing its sophomore season.
There have been no details released yet as to what role Clinton will be playing on the show in a guest capacity, but there is a better than good chance that she will be portraying a semi-fictional version of herself and in some way will get featured in the show's fictional universe mirroring reality.
This is not something that is unheard of for political figures. Just this year, "Madam Secretary" featured Madeline Albright on their show in a guest capacity. Albright also played a fictional version of her real-life self, advising the fictional Secretary of State, Elizabeth McCord.
Clinton also posted a picture on Twitter of her on set of the show with her co-stars.
