'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' Gameplay: FF7 To Have Expanded Side Characters?
"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" writer Kazushige Nojima, director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase have shared a few extra details on the upcoming PlayStation 4 title.
In this week's issue of Famitsu via Siliconera, the triumvirate elaborated on Kitase's prior blog post, which stated that "Remake" will delve deeper into the story of AVALANCHE members Biggs, Jessie and Wedge.
In order to give the characters more important roles, modifications to the original narrative of "Final Fantasy 7" will have to be made. This doesn't come as a surprise since Square Enix previously revealed that "Remake" will be a multi-part series. This format allows developers to allocate more screen time to various areas and characters that they weren't able to maximize in the original game.
As of the moment, it's anyone's guess how Biggs, Jessie and Wedge will have their roles and stories fleshed out. "Remake" might explore their pasts, or perhaps their roles could be expanded upon courtesy of major plot changes. Whatever the case may be, new details on the trio will definitely be welcomed, especially since diehard "Final Fantasy 7" fans are already pretty familiar with the game's main cast.
Kitase said Square Enix keeps track of fan reactions. He said many were right in speculating why "Remake" would be an episodic game. The producer explained that in order to fit everything into one installment, some major plot points and in-game features would have to be chopped off. The exclusion would have resulted into a condensed and hasty version of "Final Fantasy 7."
As to other key changes fans can expect from "Remake," Nomura mentioned in the Official PlayStation Magazine, via GamesRadar, that combat systems and exploration mechanics have been revised to raise the game to today's standards.
"We're not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that," said the game's director. "We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it's still recognizable."
Nomura also mentioned that the "Final Fantasy 7" companion movie he directed ten years ago, entitled "Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children," served as one of Square Enix's inspirations in designing the game's graphics. However, he made it clear that the studio did not totally copy the 3D models of "Advent Children" since the technology it used has become dated.
"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will hit shelves as a PlayStation 4 timed-exclusive, but Square Enix has yet to announce the game's official release date.
