If there were ever a classic horror film in dire need of a modern restoration to fit in with the technology of today, that film would be "Phantasm." Apparently, that dream has also been on the mind of one of Hollywood's biggest names, J.J. Abrams.

According to a report by AICN, Abrams' Bad Robot production company is hard at work on giving the film a makeover that would essentially bring it into the 21st century. Horror fans have been waiting for a long time to see something like this happen.

Bad Robot and with the original film director Don Coscarelli have been taking the original footage for the film and restoring its beauty for a 4K resolution, which is the evolving technology commercial home entertainment companies are using to showcase an ultra high-definition picture. The clarity on it is spectacular to say the least, and the restoration of the original film gives it the most amazing home cinematic feel.

For those who do not know, there is a specific character in the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film that is called Captain Phasma, according to Comic Book. That character will be portrayed on the film by "Game of Thrones" actress Gwendoline Christie.

When Abrams spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the character, he referenced the film "Phantasm" as his inspiration for naming her character.

"Phasma I named because of the amazing chrome design that came from Michael Kaplan's wardrobe team," Abrams told Entertainment Weekly for their fall preview issue, as reported by Comic Book. "It reminded me of the ball in 'Phantasm,' and I just thought, Phasma sounds really cool."

For those who do not remember the film, it is about two brothers who discover a mortuary is doubling as a gateway to hell and the undertaker is a special liaison from the ominous world. It also features a shiny chrome ball that flies around with a razor sharp dagger that plunges itself into people then drains their blood.
