Backwards compatibility landed on Xbox One via The New Xbox One Experience update back in November. The software brougt 100 backwards-compatible games, with the promise that more will arrive in the future, including "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "Halo Wars," "Halo Reach" and all three "BioShock" titles. What nostalgic gamers can do now is sit back and wait for the impending announcement.
As for the Xbox One, its latest and most comprehensive patch completely revamped the dashboard and introduced a slew of user interface improvements. TechRadar noted that the update also optimized overall graphics performance.
The New Xbox One Experience Patch Notes
- Home screen displays the user's latest activity. Users can know more about recent activities by scrolling down to the lower right-side of the screen.
- The middle portion of the home screen shows the game that was last played.
- The other previously played games are also shown, albeit to a lesser degree, along with important game details.
- Pins are now situated underneath the home screen. They feature the user's most favourite apps, shows and the like.
- Shortcuts are now set to allow users to check pins immediately after a game has ended, instead of them scrolling all the way down to the bottom portion of the home screen.
- Tips and Updates is a new feature that shows upcoming events, updates and promotions for the Xbox One.
Microsoft also mentioned that it plans to add background music functionality to the Xbox One, but it won't be available anytime soon since the tech giant wants to take its time in developing the new feature.
Xbox program manager Mike Ybarra said on The Inner Circle podcast that support for background music is among the company's backlog of upcoming capabilities.
"Background music is on that list," said the executive. "Windows 10 will help us as we think about what's the right away to deliver that. And we want to do it in a way that surprises fans."
Over at Sony, the Japan-based developer is open to fan suggestions for backwards-compatibility on the PlayStation 4. Gamers are more than welcomed to specify what PlayStation 2 games they want to play on Sony's latest-gen console.
PlayStation Worldwide Studio's Dave Thach recently took to Twitter to encourage fans to post their favorite titles using the hashtag "#ps2ps4."
The campaign has since received a large number of suggestions, including "Yakuza," "Gran Turismo" and "Persona."
