Broadcast network Fox is looking to improve its Latino viewership by bringing more Hispanic oriented programming to its network. The first series on the slate for this new initiative will be a "Romeo and Juliet" drama that features a Latino cast and setting.

The project is still yet to be titled but hails from writer and executive producer Eduardo Cisneros ("Instructions Not Included") and Jason Shuman ("Role Models," "Lone Survivor"), according to Deadline.

William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" stage play has long been the fodder for many different dramatic and comical films and TV series, one of which is currently playing on ABC, "Still Star-Crossed."

In the past, there have been many variations of the classic British tale. This one features a Latino cast set against the backdrop of Los Angeles. It will take place in an affluent area of the city where the Latino music and radio industry thrives.

Although details of the series have not been disclosed yet, fans can expect there to be a forbidden love theme between two families that are perpetually engaged in a war that could potentially have been going on now for generations. That is if it follows the canon set forth in the original story by Shakespeare himself.

Fans should remember that at its core, "Romeo and Juliet" is a romantic tragedy that does not have a happy ending. Depending on how close the series remains to the source material, the show could lead fans to an emotional ending should it pay homage to the origins of the story.

This is not the first time Fox has tried its hand at adapting a Latino story for modern audiences. It tested a pilot order for "Urban Cowboy," which was a makeover from the original film starring John Travolta. That reboot series failed to make it past the pilot stage and has already been cancelled.

There has been no word yet as to when production will start on the series or when it will premiere on the network.
