Lamar Odom's health scare is far from over, and handlers for the former NBA star insist the Kardashians are actively overstating the extent of his recovery in order to avoid any backlash.

"Lamar has made great improvement after the overdose, but he is not walking and unfortunately there is no Christmas miracle for his condition," a source told Radar Online. "He's still in pretty bad shape."

Several media outlets have reported Odom is slated to leave Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles sometime during the week of Christmas, after doctors declared there is nothing more they can do for him.

"People close to Lamar believe the Kardashians are completely spinning the story, trying to make it seem like Lamar is better so that when Khloe doesn't spend as much time with him or let him live with her she won't get any backlash," a source added. "It seems like they are all trying to get ahead of the backlash that is ultimately going to come when Lamar leaves the hospital."

This isn't the first time Odom's team has pointed accusatory fingers at Kardashian and the former NBA star's family of in-laws. The reality TV family has previously been accused of filming scenes featuring Odom for their "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" show at the hospital.

As part of that plan, the family was rumored to have sneaked cameras into his hospital room, leaving his handlers now convinced there is nothing the family won't do to advance their agenda and "exploit the situation."

Through all his struggles, the 36-year-old former NBA Sixth Man of The Year Award winner and two-time champion has vowed to recover from the damage he suffered earlier this summer in a drug induced mishap at a Las Vegas brothel.
