Bill Cosby Sexual Assault News: Attorneys Seek to Dismiss Camille Cosby Subpoena
Attorneys for Bill Cosby are actively fighting to squash a subpoena ordering his wife to take the stand in a suit related to his ongoing sexual assault probe.
NBC reports Camille Cosby is slated to be deposed on Jan. 6 in Massachusetts. The hearing stems from a defamation suit filed against the "Cosby Show" dad by three women who initially accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting them.
The plaintiffs' suit argues that, after they came forward with their assault allegations, attorneys for Cosby callously sought to portray them as liars and schemers.
Attorney Joseph Cammarata has long contended he should be able to interrogate Camille Cosby on behalf of his clients because she also served as her husband's business manager.
Meanwhile, Cosby's attorneys insist his wife has no direct information about the accuracy of the women's allegations and the attempt to subject her to a deposition is "nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to pressure defendant in the face of subjecting his wife to the shame and embarrassment of responding to questions about his alleged infidelities and sexual misconduct."
The filing also stipulates that any confidential communications between Cosby and his wife of more than 50 years are protected by the Massachusetts spousal disqualification rule.
In all, more than 50 women have recently come forward to allege that Cosby sexually assaulted them over a period that spans more than five decades.
The now 78-year-old Cosby recently filed a counter-suit against the three women named in the defamation suit, accusing them of making false allegations of sexual misconduct for financial gain. He added the women have "engaged in a campaign to assassinate" his reputation and character.
The legendary comedian was also recently forced to submit to yet another deposition grilling in Boston, in which famed civil right attorney Gloria Allred interrogated him for more than seven hours on behalf of her client Judy Huth.
