"The Big Bang Theory" executive producer Steve Molaro opened up about what's next for Sheldon and Amy now that they have finally consummated their relationship.

The Season 9 winter finale of the popular CBS series ended with a big bang, as Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) shared an exciting and satisfying night together.

In the episode, Sheldon decided to give his girlfriend of five and a half years the gift of intimacy, instead of going to see an early showing of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with his friends. Sheldon's decision to take the next step in his relationship with Amy came shortly after the couple reconciled, following their shocking break up in Season 8.

Both Sheldon and Amy appeared to be quite satisfied after their sexual encounter, but Sheldon made it clear that he doesn't plan to get intimate again until her next birthday.

The monumental episode also featured a special guest appearance from legendary actor Bob Newhart, who reprised his role as Sheldon's Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In an interview with TVLine, Molaro said that now that lovebirds have reached a milestone in their awkward romance, the show will spotlight other characters for a while. The EP was asked if the sitcom will continue to focus on Sheldon and Amy's sexual encounter or move on.

"I think we will move on until the next time we talk about it," Molaro said. "Sheldon in that moment has a very clear plan in mind at the end of the episode. It's a chance for us to take a little breather from the weightiness of the Sheldon-Amy relationship and put the spotlight on some of the other amazing relationships and characters that we have on our show."

The showrunner also teased that Sheldon's engagement ring "will come back up again this season."

Furthermore, during an interview with Variety, he revealed that fans should not expect Sheldon and Amy to have children any time soon.

"Babies have a tendency to alter the DNA of a show a little more than we're looking to at this time," Molaro said. "There are other avenues we want to explore before we get to the pitter-patter of little nerd feet."

Season 9 Episode 12 will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
