NFL: Will the Philadelphia Eagles Win the NFC East?
The dreadful NFC East is down to three teams in the running for the 2015 divisional champion. With the Dallas Cowboys eliminated, the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are going to fight it out for first place. There won't be any wild card teams from the NFC East this season.
As bad as things have looked this year for the Eagles, they are only one game back with two to play. At 6-8, they are one win behind the Redskins for first place in the NFC East and tied with the Giants for second place.
Here's the bottom line: If the Eagles win their last two games, they win the division. The Eagles control their own playoff destiny. But the Eagles are coming off a brutal loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and they have lost four of their last six games.
Head coach and general manager Chip Kelly has been under fire all season long for getting rid of so many talented players, like DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy and Evan Mathis. Sam Bradford has never posted a winning season in his career, and these last two games are huge because he is scheduled to become a free agent.
The Eagles' next game will be against the Redskins, whom they lost to in Week 4. In that game, Kirk Cousins led the Redskins on a last minute game-winning drive.
This time, the two teams will meet in Philadelphia. This is clearly more of a must win game for the Eagles because they have an inferior record. It's time for DeMarco Murray to start getting the ball more often, especially in short yardage situations. Kelly loves running his college style offense east and west, but it's clearly not working.
The biggest disappointment this year has to be from the Eagles defensive line. The Eagles have been one of the best run stopping teams in the league for a while, but they rank a mediocre 30th in run defense this year.
If the Eagles can get revenge on the Redskins, they will take on the Giants in Week 17 for the division crown. The Eagles defeated the Giants back in Week 6, 27-7 at home. The Giants have had one of the worst defenses in the league this year, and the Eagles matchup very well against them.
The winner of the NFC East will be the No. 4 seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs. That means that said team will take on the No. 5 seed, which at this moment is the Seattle Seahawks.
In all honesty, the odds of any NFC East team beating the Seahawks in the first round of the playoffs is pretty unlikely. It would be a much more favorable matchup if the NFC East winner takes on the wild card Minnesota Vikings.
These last two weeks are going to be must watch football in the NFC East, as three teams fight for the division.
