A new promo teasing the midseason premiere of "The Good Wife" reveals that Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) will unleash a fit of rage upon Eli (Alan Cumming) for deleting a voicemail sent from her former lover that would have changed her life.

During the epic winter finale, Eli confessed to Alicia that he erased a voicemail that Will left her professing his love for her six years ago. Will also said that he would do anything to be with her.

After listening to the message, Eli immediately deleted it in order to prevent Alicia's love affair from interfering with her husband's campaign. As a result, Alicia never heard the voicemail before Will suffered from a tragic death.

When asked what prompted Eli's confession, executive producers Robert and Michelle King told Entertainment Weekly that he was still feeling very emotional about his breakup with Courtney Paige and guilty that Alicia's potential new love interest, Jason Crouse, has been taken away from her.

"Eli admits it now for a few reasons: He's particularly vulnerable because of his pain over Courtney (Vanessa Williams) leaving, and the reason for her leaving ... work over love," said the showrunners.

"But he also feels guilty about his involvement in manipulating Alicia out of happiness again by maneuvering Jason (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) away from her. He realizes he's doing the same thing now that he did back at the end of the first season. He cares for Alicia now, and wants her to be happy. He confesses in order to relieve his guilt, but also to push Alicia to not give up her chance at happiness," they added.

A preview video of the next episode, which is titled "Iowa," reveals that Eli's confession will not sit well with the usually demure lawyer. Instead, in the clip she is seen throwing dishes at his head in a fit of rage.

Episode 11 of Season 7 of "The Good Wife," "Iowa," airs on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
