Games for the Nintendo Wii U might not release very often but when they do, most of them end up being quite impressive. Now that 2016 is officially underway, here's a list of the top five games Wii U owners can look forward to later this year.

1. "Pokken Tournament"

As its name implies, Pokken Tournament is a mix between Pokémon and Tekken. It introduces a fresh take on the familiar turn-based formula and delivers a fighting game with some fierce Pokémon to choose from. Like "Tekken 7," which you can read more about here, "Pokken Tournament" has already been released in Japanese arcades. The game is expected to arrive in North America in the first or second quarter of this year.

2. "The Legend of Zelda"

The game was supposed to release in 2015 before Nintendo announced that development on the project has been delayed. The company assured back in November, through Polygon, that the game will instead be released sometime in 2016. Not much is known story-wise regarding the new title though it was previously revealed that the game will focus on non-linear gameplay while giving players a massive sandbox world to explore.

3. "Star Fox Zero"

"Star Fox Zero" for Wii U will land in the U.S. on April 22, 2016. The game isn't a sequel or a prequel, but a complete reboot. Players will be going through familiar territory equipped with new tools at their disposal. Wired pointed out that the game will feature outer space dogfighting action experienced in two views: a behind-the-craft view on the TV and a first-person cockpit view on the Wii U GamePad.

4. "Genei Ibun Roku X FE"

Initially branded as "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem," this Japanese RPG includes elements from both the "Atlus" series and Nintendo's "Fire Emblem" series. The game tells the story of a talent agency for various individuals who can summon Mirages. These Mirages are based on characters from the "Fire Emblem" series. The game released in Japan on Dec. 26, 2015. According to Famitsu, as translated by Persona Central, the game had poor opening sales with only 23,806 copies sold thus far. Sales are expected to skyrocket starting this month.

5. "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD"

Considered to be the as the darker entry into "The Legend of Zelda" series, "Twilight Princess" will receive an HD makeover on the Wii U, similarly to "Wind Waker" that launched two years ago.

The ESRB recently rated the HD re-master as T for Teens. The content descriptors said the game features "Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence." That's the same rating that the original game received back in 2006.
