CES 2016: AT&T Creates Voice Assistant for Connected Home
AT&T is working on their own voice assistant that would be similar to Apple's Siri. The voice assistant would come as a mobile application and would allow users to control various aspects of their home as well as ask questions.
AT&T announced on Tuesday it plans to create an app that would work with Digital Life customers to help them control their home, CNet reports.
The Digital Life team at AT&T is now testing the mobile app it plans to release before the second half of the year.
The digital voice assistant app would allow users to make sure that their security system is set, adjust the thermostat, turn on or off lights and more.
Users can either tell the system what to do by giving it a demand like "lock the back door" or ask it a question like "is the security system armed?"
AT&T's push to create a digital assistant is following the trend set by Apple's Siri, Google Now and Microsoft's Cortana. Additionally, the Amazon Echo is the new speaker that allows users to ask questions and complete tasks.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this year, using voice commands to complete tasks at home is a popular theme.
The mobile app from AT&T will work for devices that run Apple's iOS or Google's Android operating system.
AT&T's Digital Life program helps users make their homes smarter by allowing users to control lights, thermostats and security systems with connected services. AT&T charges a monthly fee for Digital Life.
AT&T will demonstrate what the app will look like in the future at CES this week.
