Coachella Lineup Released, Guns N’ Roses Reunite to Headline
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has released the full lineup of artists set to perform in April, including headliners Guns N' Roses.
While many rock bands have reunited to headline the Coachella Festival, the fact that Guns N' Roses will do so this year comes as a big surprise, given the intense fallout the band experienced in the mid '90s.
According to Billboard, the Coachella Festival is well known for putting classic rock bands back onstage together after many years apart. Such was the case with Rage Against the Machine in 2007, My Bloody Valentine in 2009, Pulp in 2012 and Outkast at the 2014 festival.
It's been a bumpy road for Guns N' Roses, which featured lead singer Axl Rose as the only original member for some years. The band's last released album, "Chinese Democracy," did not feature Slash or other original members. Other band mates moved on and found success with projects such as Velvet Revolver.
But now that the original band members have mended their fallout, they are coming back together for a classic show die-hard fans have been waiting decades to see.
According to the Coachella website, the lineup will feature many other well known groups and performers as well. Among those names are Ice Cube, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Ellie Goulding, Of Monsters and Men, Rancid and Nina Kraviz.
The festival is one of a kind and has been know to attract huge crowds, generating in excess of $84 million in revenue. This year, the festival will take place in Indio, California, with artists performing April 15 to 17, and April 22 to 24.
Although Coachella will be the first stage for their reunion, Guns N' Roses are also actively pursuing other venues. Followup performances will include as many as 25 different football stadiums and one confirmed show at the newly opened Las Vegas Arena, making the group the first musical act to perform there.
