'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 May Include End for Matt Honeycutt [Watch]
There is a possibility that fans of "The Vampire Diaries" might have to say goodbye to Matt Honeycutt (Zach Roerig) in the second half of Season 7.
Most of the cast from the vampire drama has appeared in flash forward scenes that give viewers a glimpse of what's to come in a few years. However, executive producer Caroline Dries points out that the Mystic Falls sheriff has not been featured in any of the scenes from the future.
"We haven't seen [Matt in a flash forward]," she told Entertainment Weekly. "And I don't know if that's a good thing."
During an interview with TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Dries also suggested that fans should not hold their breath waiting for Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to return to Mystic Falls anytime soon. According to the showrunner, the writers have "talked about it here and there, but nothing is firm. Sometimes, we say, 'Wouldn't it be nice if blah blah blah,' but none of the stories are driving towards anything yet."
Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec told The Hollywood Reporter that the rest of the season will largely focus on "exploring the dynamic between the [Salvadore] brothers and the lengths that they're willing to go to protect each other but also epic ways that they have disappointed each other and have continued to do so. It's a really powerful brother storyline that I'm really excited about."
A promo from the upcoming episode, which is titled "Hell Is Other People," reveals that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will be mentally and emotionally unstable after being raised from the dead. In the preview, Damon appears to return after being dead for three months. He also seems to have lost touch with reality and attacks Caroline while screaming, "None of this is real!"
Another clip shows Stefan (Paul Wesley) in jeopardy of not being able to come back at all. Watch it below.
"The Vampire Diaries" returns Friday, Jan. 29, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
