Roads are important part of the transport system all over the world. The routes in all countries must be methodical and effective so as to increase economic and social benefits. They greatly helps in mobility by allowing people to travel even to the most remote places.

However, not all roads are safe to travel on. Most of them get heavy traffic everyday but the remote, narrow and twisty ones are less traveled. 1. Russia's Trans-Siberian Highway

This is one of the longest highways in the world - stretching for about 7,000 miles from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg. Much of the road are unpaved up to this day and travelers have to cross mountains, forests and deserts when passing by this route.

The gulag inmates built most parts of the highway. The most dangerous time to take this road is during wet summers when parts become totally impassable.

2. China's Sichuan-Tibet Highway

For every 100,000 travelers, 7,500 people have already died on this road so passing on it is feared by many. The main cause of the deaths involved avalanches, bad weather and rock slides.

3. Guoliang Tunnel

This tunnel road was built by 13 villagers. They started carving the Guoliang Tunnel 40 years ago, after being tired of the long walks to get to the town. After five years of continuous work, they finally finished the almost 4,000-foot tunnel. The width is just enough for cars to pass and the man-made ‘windows' along the road allow passersby to see the drop if they are to fall.

4. Ecuador's Cotopaxi Volcano Road

This is a 40 kilometer dirt road that leads to the Cotopaxi Volcano National Park. This is on top of the list because the big potholes and slippery inclines only adds to the road's extremely unsafe driving conditions.

5. Taiwan's Taroko Gorge Road

One of the most scary highways in Taiwan. The route is filled with sharp turns, narrow pathways and blind curves which can easily lead vehicles straight down the cliffs.

6. Brazil's BR-116

The second longest road in Brazil is known as "Rodovia de Morte" or "Highway of Death" because thousands of travelers die here every year. The 2,700-mile road has not been maintained so it is not in good shape.

What makes this road dangerous is the unstable weather and some steep cliffs that cause major accidents. Aside from this, bandits and gangs are a big threat to people according to Thrillist.

7. Bolivia's North Yungas Road

As stated on Huffington Post, this is called "El Camino del Muerte" or "The Road of Death" and this has been labeled as the most dangerous road in the world. Most of the trucks and buses go straight to the valley below when they pass by each other because it is narrow and has no guardrails. In addition, falling rocks and mudslides make traveling highly deadly.
