Univision announced on Tuesday the network is moving forward with plans to air a series on the life of recently recaptured Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman later this year.

According to Agence France-Presse, the show is written by former Colombian drug dealer Andres Lopez Lopez, who spent time in a U.S. prison before turning to scriptwriting about his former occupation. The series is set to commence airing later this fall, though a cast for the show has not yet been announced.

"The Chapo Guzman story has been one of the most captivating stories this past year and we are thrilled to bring an inside look into his world to our audiences," said Alberto Ciurana, Univision's programming chief.

The leader of the notorious Sinaloa cartel was recaptured in a deadly raid not far from his hometown last week, some six months after he escaped custody by navigating a secret tunnel built underneath his maximum security jail cell, his second breakout in 14 years.

Mexican officials claim they were finally able to get a beat on Guzman's whereabouts by monitoring a secret Rolling Stone interview he set up with Academy Award-winning actor Sean Penn.

The interview was brokered by Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, who was also on hand for the meeting. Both she and Penn are now rumored to be under investigation by the Mexican government.

"In addition to including the developments of his most recent escape and capture, this unauthorized look at his life will delve deep into the man beyond his drug empire," Univision officials said in a statement. The series is slated to be called "Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzman: El varon de la droga," which loosely translates as "The Drug Baron."

Guzman is now being held in a Mexican prison as he awaits the possibility of extradition to the U.S. to face a slew of federal charges.
