iOS 9.3 to Include New Features, Night Shift, Improved Apps
The next major update to Apple's iOS operating system, iOS 9.3, is currently only available to developers, but some features on the new system are already known.
iOS 9.3 could be the last update to the operating system before iOS 10, CNet reports.
The biggest new feature of iOS 9.3 is going to be the new Night Shift mode. With Night Shift activated, an iPhone or iPad will automatically detect when the sun goes down and gradually start to make the display more gentle to the user's eyes.
Phone and tablet displays have a certain type of blue light that tricks a user's brain into thinking she is not tired. This means that users who read articles or emails before bed are actually ruining their sleep cycles. With Night Shift, the display is adjusted, creating a viewing environment that will not interfere with the user's sleep cycle.
Meanwhile, Apple has been trying to deliver news that users actually want to read with the News app. In iOS 9.3, the app will get more personalized and deliver stories that are more relevant to what users want to read. The app will also get performance updates to allow it to load faster and allow videos to be shown along with the articles.
Apple also knows that some users store a great deal of confidential information in their iPhones and iPads. With the update to iOS 9.3, the Notes app will allow for password protection. This means if users have passwords or confidential information stored as notes, they will be protected.
Apple is encouraging users to use the Health app as well. The app can tell users what third party apps they can connect to it to allow for health and fitness tracking.
Car owners with vehicles that have Apple's CarPlay installed in them will get some nice upgrades thanks to iOS 9.3 too. Before hitting the road, users will be able to browse Apple Music and load up a perfect playlist for the drive. Additionally, a new Nearby feature will suggest restaurants and gas stations in real time.
