After a decade, the hit teen film series "High School Musical" will reunite to celebrate its 10th anniversary on Disney. Several cast members including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman were on set last Sunday to film a TV special for the Disney Channel.

Fans of the famed musical movie about high school students involved in the school's musical play are excited. However, it is quite noticeable that lead star Zac Efron was not on set. Rumors then rose asking if Efron will be included in the much-awaited reunion.

The Daily Mail reported that although Efron wasn't present at last Sunday's filming of the "High School Musical" 10th year anniversary special, he will, however, appear in a pre-taped video message, which will also air on the special.

The highly anticipated reunion will be airing on Jan. 20, 2016, which is the same date that the movie premiered in 2006.

Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh revealed that the reunion brings joy to its global audience.

"It's their optimism, their dedication and their extraordinary talent as a group that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon," Marsh said as quoted by the new agency.

"Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere - express yourself, believe in yourself and always follow your dreams," he added.

Meanwhile, Variety reports that the Disney Channel original movie drew 7.7 million viewers in the US. This further became a phenomenon globally according to the Daily Mail gaining 100 million viewers that year.

The film had two sequels and a soundtrack that was listed as the number one hit in 2006, the news agency further revealed. The cast all posted on their social medias the special bonding time that they get to experience again.

Hudgens, Tisdale, Grabeel, Bleu and Coleman all gave their fans a glimpse of what to expect this coming Jan. 20, posting behind-the-scenes photos on their social meida websites. Efron, however, is busy filming his upcoming films "Neighbors" and "Dirty Grandpa."
