Expect more Latina action in the "Fast & Furious" universe soon.

Eva Mendes' character, Monica Fuentes, could be getting her own story told in a solo movie sometime in the future.

It's pretty much known that Mendes is set to star in the franchise's next instalment "Furious 8," but having her own "Fast & Furious" spinoff film is even better.

Movie News Guide reported rumors saying that the 41-year-old Cuban American actress has been involved in "Furious 8" for months now. That sounds like a confirmation of her being cast in the film.

For now though, Mendes' "Fast & Furious" solo film remains a rumor.

Mendes' last real involvement as one of the main cast in the franchise is "2 Fast 2 Furious" in 2003. She starred as undercover agent Monica Fuentes, who became the love interest of Brian O'Conner, played by the now deceased Paul Walker.

Mendes' "Fast & Furious" spinoff was first reported by We Got This Covered.

The website reported that Universal Pictures has been considering making a solo film about Mendes' Monica Fuentes. However, the spinoff will depend on audiences' reception of Mendes in "Furious 8."

According to a We Got This Covered source, lead actor Vin Diesel and "Fast & Furious 8" Director F. Gary Gray wants to see how audiences will first respond to Mendes' character to determine whether a spinoff is worth it.

In any case, Mendes' character is reported as being "the central plot" of "Furious 8." In addition, rumors suggest that the film has decided to add Monica Fuentes' son in the franchise. It's possible, too, that he could be (potential spoiler alert!) Brian O'Conner's son.

According to Slash Film, last year's "Fast & Furious 7" raked in over $1.5 billion dollars at the box office. It's only natural that the franchise would want to expand its universe with spinoff films.

Vin Diesel hinted at the series branching out in an interview a few months ago.

"We've written out storylines for various characters. We've been playing with it for a long time," Diesel said.

"It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class," he added.

Universal Pictures chairperson Donna Langley also added that they are "in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It's an ensemble cast and there's room to bring characters in and out."

The big question now is, will fans welcome Eva Mendes' Monica Fuentes character enough that the studio will be convinced to make her own spinoff? Maybe there's a chance with Gray's guidance.

We can only know for sure when "Furious 8" arrives in theaters next year on April 14.
