Metal Gear Solid 5 'Phantom Pain' PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 Trailer Released On Youtube: 'Punished Snake' Gets Open World, Night/Day Cycle in 'Peace Walker' Sequel
The popular stealth game Metal Gear is slated to release another installment, entitled "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Developed by Kojima Productions, this one will run on the Fox Engine. Trailers can already be seen in various websites, and the game is set for release sometime between late 2014 and late 2015, but most recently has been pegged at early 2015. It is developed for PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
In this Metal Gear installment, players will take the role of Big Boss, now referred to as Punished Snake, who is a super soldier who will stealthily explore a variety of open-world environments. There is not much evidence of change in the gameplay elements from "Ground Zeroes," the previous installment, and save data from "Ground Zeroes" will carry over to "Phantom Pain," even across different generations of the same console. Punished Snake's repertoire will include maps, binoculars, pistols, explosives, and rifles. Players may move across the world with tanks, cars, and helicopters.
Like "Peace Walker" and "Ground Zeroes," to which "Phantom Pain" is a sequel, this installment will feature the option for players to produce items and weapons from their base and hold enemy soldiers there as POWs. Players can choose to access their base using their mobile devices. Director Hideo Kojima said that it would feature a new night and day cycle, which will run real-time. Players also have the option to choose the order of story events by selecting missions in the order they prefer without penalty.
Kojima and his team aim to offer new sneaking methods and make available many modes of transportation. The director says he wants it to be a "true open world experience," with 200 times more of playable world than the notably short and small-scale "Ground Zeroes," with various environments and climates.
An official trailer for the game was released at E3 2013 and can be viewed on YouTube.
