A woman from Victoria, Australia has become a Lucha Libre star after going on a vacation in Mexico.

Times Colonist reported that Kira Forster, who grew up in Gordon Head, Australia, is currently a professional Lucha Libre female wrestler. She has become a star in Mexico and is known by the locals as “Taya” or “WeraLoca (Crazy Blond).” Her wrestling persona is a villain and her arch-rival is called Faby Apache.

“Little kids will run out to me. Little kids will show up dressed like me. People have my T-shirts and my dolls and all that kind of stuff,” Forster said.

Lucha Libre, which means “free wrestling,” is a huge sport in Mexico with millions watching matches on weekly broadcasts on television. The sport is both athletic and entertaining, with most wrestlers wearing colorful masks and costumes.

The men are called luchadores while the females are called luchadores. The rivalries can be quite fierce, with existing storylines, similar to professional entertainment wrestling in the United States.

Times Colonist wrote that Forster has blond and red hair and wears a bandana. She also has tights with cutouts on the sides and fur boots. She reportedly designs all her outfits to ensure that she maintains her image for the fans.

Forster said that her persona is the evil foreigner who arrives in Mexico and ruins her arch-enemy’s life. Fans generally boo and yell at her and side with her good counterpart. She said that it is all part of the job, and she is supposed to make the audience hate her.

The Aussie was hired by wrestling promotions firm LuchaLibre AAA, writes The Province. She also has a contract with Lucha Underground, a wrestling TV series that regularly airs in Mexico and the United States. Although luchadores are quite common in the country, there are only a few foreigners who get to become part of luchalibre.

Despite her evil persona, Taya managed to have achievements in the ring. In 2014, she won the Reina de Reinas (Queen of Queens) title at Triplemania XXII. She said that she is the very first foreigner to win the title in the company’s 22 years of existence. She is also the longest-reigning champion.

“I’m the top girl. And I’ve had to fight my way tooth and nail to get here. I’m extremely proud to represent a foreigner that came into this crazy world,” Forster told The Province.
