Mozilla Firefox was updated to Firefox 44 this week. With the update, users will be able to cut down on the amount of tabs and windows they have open.

Security patches in the newest update will also provide users with a more secure browsing experience. 

Less Open Tabs Required

The new Firefox browser is designed to keep users connected to their important tasks through push notifications, eWeek reports.

The idea of the push notifications is to keep users from having to keep multiple tabs open for their email, social media and other important pages that utilize messaging systems. With push notifications, the Firefox browser will alert users of new emails or social media posts without those web pages open. The feature is made possible through the Web Push W3C standard.

"An application server can send a push message at any time, even when a webapp or user agent is inactive," the W3C standard abstract states. "Push messages are delivered to a Service Worker that runs in the origin of the webapp, which can use the information in the message to update local state or display a notification to the user."

Push Notifications Can Work on Most Sites

Not all websites that offer alerts will be compatible with Firefox right away, but the browser company makes it easy for websites to enable the feature through their developer FAQ page. Push alerts are also included in Google's Chrome and the Mac-based Safari browsers.

Faster Computers

With less tabs open, users should have a better web browsing experience while using Firefox. The computer will not be bogged down by handling so many processes at the same time, allowing the machine to run faster and smoother as a result.

Firefox is also becoming more secure through the release of several new security patches. Mozilla located critical vulnerabilities and released patches to ensure users have a safe web browsing experience. Mozilla identified a total of 11 security advisories and vulnerabilities.
