Google Maps to Work Even If You Get Disconnected From the Internet
There are ways you can still guide yourself to an unfamiliar destination even without the constant support of an internet connection. According to NeuroGadget, Google Maps can now bring you to your destination even if you get disconnected from the internet.
So how does it work? Google Maps' offline mode does the work in the event that you get disconnected from the internet or you arrive at a place where signal proves to be a struggle. Once you have already downloaded your destination, Google Maps will work on bringing you there. However, there will also be notifications that require you to connect to the internet every now and then.
The New Star reports that this offline feature is where the Google Maps differs from all the other maps available.
After you downloaded the area or place you want to go, Google Maps will integrate not only the place but also nearby establishments to give leeway on unspecified destination. For example, even in the absence of a complete address, Google Maps will still be able to bring you somewhere near the location.
However, despite Google Maps' impressive offline capability to direct you, there are also glitches in the new feature. Apparently, Google Maps needs to be refreshed after going from one location to another in order to accurately determine the starting point.
The offline mode of Google Maps is also unable to direct you to an alternate route in instances where heavy traffic occurs. Navigation of several establishments is also near to impossible, except for establishments that were already shown during the initial download.
The offline mode of Google Maps can also be used as a traditional map in case you need to walk to your destination. Despite its limitations, the application still serves a great purpose in locations where it's impossible to get an internet connection.
Google Maps' offline mode, however, can still direct you to an alternate route in cases where there is a road block or detours. In order to download, NeuroGadget suggests that you open Google maps and type in the place you need to go. Once you see the bar that says the name of the place, click it and check if it's the correct location. After confirming, you can again press download to get the full map saved on your device.
