Manchester United Dangled €190M Offer to Neymar
Manchester United already knew that they had to place something tempting on the table to snag 23-year-old Barcelona forward Neymar. Now the cat is out of the bag.
As it turned out, Neymar was indeed dangled big money as confirmed by his father Neymar Sr. recently via Goal.com.
The elder Neymar revealed the actual group that bid for his son, affirming a radio report that his son was given a mega offer last summer.
“Manchester United is the side that offered €190 million for Neymar,” said Neymar Sr via the Mirror. “He still has two years left on his contract but you all [the media] can be calm as my son is so happy here.”
The revelation comes days after Neymar Sr. hinted that there was one side that attempted to activate his son’s buyout clause. Man Utd. has long been linked to the Brazilian captain though no one expected the offer to be this massive.
Neymar has two years left on his contract with Barcelona though a move elsewhere is unlikely. Despite constant rumors linking the striker to a potential move to the Red Devils, it is unlikely that Neymar will be playing anywhere else for now.
The Red Devils aren’t exactly having a good run thus far and injecting someone like Neymar doesn’t really come as a surprise. Despite being one of the biggest European football clubs, the ploy would have worked if Neymar was looking to shy away from the shadows of his teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
However, the reality is that Neymar seems content with where he is and couldn't care less about being in the spotlight, at least for now.
The Red Devils thus became the second team linked to Neymar after that alleged secret meeting that took place between the Brazilian star and Real Madrid.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Neymar was rumored to have met with some Real Madrid officials at the 2015 Ballon d’Or but in the eyes of many, it was seen more as a ploy to give Neymar some leverage as far as his contract negotiation is concerned.
“The reality is that the Ballon d'Or doesn't seem a likely place, or a secret one, to have a meeting of this kind,” as mentioned on the report from Sport. “Neymar, furthermore, says he's happy at Barcelona and it's hard to hide the reality.”
With two big clubs that would have been key stops for Neymar technically thrashed, the obvious is that the rising forward has no interest playing elsewhere other than Barcelona, at least for the next couple of years.
