"Halo 5: Guardians" is a gift that keeps on giving. The February update is packed full of exciting items and features, but 343 Industries confirmed it's about to get even better with the inclusion of new game modes including fan favorite Grifball.

The announcement was made on a post from Halo Waypoint, where multiplayer designer Max Grossman and software engineer Miller Tinkerhess explained the new game modes that were reimagined for the latest installment of the acclaimed franchise.

Grifball

To make this popular game mode an even greater experience for the players, the team sought out the help of Grifball expert Jeffrey "Nokyard" Fischer who even created the first "Halo 5" Grifball court for the update. Nokyard and weapons designer Daniel Wiksten worked together to build the balance between the Gravity Hammer, Sword and Ball that's so important to the game.

"We leveraged Nokyard's wealth of Grifball knowledge to try to make the most exciting Grifball yet, complete with thrusting Grif, Ground Pound kills, and ball throwing," Grossman wrote on the post. "Playing Grifball during playtests over the last few months has been some of the most fun we have had in the new building."

Assault

Another classic mode that will be getting a resurgence is Assault Mode, also known as the classic Neutral Bomb Assault Mode. While the core concepts and goals are the same in this version, the team revealed that they are actually tweaking the mode quite a bit this time around.

"We went back to the drawing board on when and where the ball spawns, the abilities of the ball carrier, and the arming process itself," the designer revealed. "When the game starts, the ball will spawn at a unique location each time it spawns throughout the match. The order of locations is always fixed so players can learn to predict the next spawn."

Among others, 343 Industries made changes to treat ball carrying a skill for gamers such as making the melee attack with the ball a kill, providing extra thrust and putting in the same Spotting mechanic as the one in Capture the Flag.

Other Modes

The upcoming update will also include the Fiesta Mode, although the team hasn't revealed how it's shaping up to be different in "Halo 5". Tinkerhess also revealed that a couple of new features will be added in the Forge Mode in order to encourage players' creativity even further.

These upgrades to the different modes are only some of the new things for players of the best-selling game. A previous report from Latin Post revealed that the new Arena REQ Bundle will be available on Feb. 16 with exciting items such as armor sets, weapon skins and more.
