Kate Winslet Addresses 'Titanic' Door Controversy, Says Leonardo DiCaprio Does Not Care
Recently, fans have renewed interest on what happened in the final moments of the "Titanic" movie, where Rose (Kate Winslet) did not budge a little over in the door she was holding on to stay afloat so that Jack (Leonardo Di Caprio) can stay afloat with her. Winslet gamely answered questions on that particular incident, even though it was a movie released nearly two decades ago.
Speaking with Digital Spy at the the EE BAFTA 2016 ceremony on Sunday night, Winslet funnily shared that first, DiCaprio did not care about the door, and second, he did not let that cause a rift in their friendship.
This is not the first time that Winslet addressed the door issue, gamely humoring fans of the tragic movie inspired by true events. The actress admitted earlier this month that the fans are correct, if Rose only budged a little bit, then Jack would have survived. Kate, on her appearance on the "Jimmy Kimmel show" said that there was plenty of room on the raft for them boat, so Jack should not have drowned and had the chance to grow old with Rose.
Billy Zane, who played Rose's fiancé Cal Hockley in the said 1997 disaster flick, also agreed. According to Mirror UK, he said: "There might have been a little room on there. Perhaps in some sense of reality, while discussing a plot point of a movie, he could have survived."
While DiCaprio does not care about the door, he did have a lot of things to say about the movie. In an interview with Deadline, he said "Titanic" was supposed to be just an experiment for him and Winslet, but it turned out to be so big that they were caught off guard.
People started to tell him that "it's the biggest movie ever" and he could not understand what that means. He said, though, that he experienced big changes in his career after that. All his movie projects, no matter what kind, get the thumbs up from producers. He said he never had that before "Titanic."
The downside is that the pressure for him to do more great films is always there since "Titanic." Sometimes, he forgets what his goal was when he pursued an acting career because of all these expectations from him. "I knew there was an expectation of me to do a certain thing at that point, and I knew I had to get back to what my intentions were from the onset," he said.
