2014 NBA Playoff Series News: Hawks, Grizzlies, and Clippers Look to Advance to Second Round
The first round of the NBA playoffs is coming to an end. A field of 16 teams will be cut down to eight teams. The only two teams to advance to the second round are the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards.
Thursday, May 1, gives fans three potential elimination games with all series, 3-2.
Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks
Hawks lead series 3-2
The Pacers have been absolutely awful over the last two months. They resemble nothing of a No. 1 overall seed and find themselves just one loss from elimination. The Hawks finished the season 38-44 and are just one game from advancing to the second round. This would be a complete embarrassment for the Pacers. Center Roy Hibbert can't rebound or score, and Paul George isn't the scoring threat he was in the regular season. The Pacers have yet to win consecutive games in this series, and if they will defeat the Hawks, they must win games six and seven. If the Pacers lose to the Hawks, expect a lot of changes to come this offseason.
Oklahoma City Thunder at Memphis Grizzlies
Grizzlies lead series 3-2
Overtime, overtime, and more overtime. This series has seen more consecutive overtime games played (4) than any other in NBA history. The last game saw soon-to-be-named MVP Kevin Durant miss a free throw that might have made the difference. Grizzlies center Marc Gasol is playing terrific defense along with Zach Randolph. The Grizzlies have a chance to win the series at home tonight in Game 6 in front of thousands of fans at the FedEx Forum. The Grizzlies don't level up to par with superstar talent like the Thunder, but one thing is for sure: They play more like a team.
Los Angeles Clippers at Golden State Warriors
Clippers lead series 3-2
Two evenly matched teams going at it. The Clippers lead the series by one game. But tonight's game will be played at Oakland, and the last time these two teams played there, the Warriors destroyed the Clippers 118-97. There's a good chance the Warriors will come out victorious and force a Game 7. If not, the Clippers will advance to the second round to face the winner of the Grizzlies and Thunder. Stephen Curry has played well so far but not up to his standards. He has turned the ball over a lot, and the Clippers have contained him. Blake Griffin continues to show improvements in his post game as well.
