A young autistic boy has gone missing in Southern California, and authorities are still searching in hopes of finding any clues in a case that is quickly going cold. So far, they have had little to go on.

Terry Dewayne Smith, 11, has been missing since Saturday night. There has been a widespread search for him since that time, but now rescue workers are working against the clock. They fear he may soon die of dehydration if not found.

"It's going to be in the hundred-degree range today, and we need to get the boy found," said Lt. Charlie Wilhite, of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. "Those are very rugged foothills up there. There are a lot of rocks and areas not accessible by vehicle. There are a lot of areas where you might not see somebody unless you were right on top of them."

Smith was last seen in his room on Saturday night but was gone by the time his parents checked in on him Sunday morning. His house is surrounded by wild terrain and there is no telling where he may be hiding out. It is also possible that he was abducted, though there is no clear evidence of this.

"They did process the house yesterday and didn't find any clues as far as any type of foul play. But they are not ruling anything out and are talking to the family members," Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Albert Martinez said.

Despite being 11-years-old, Smith has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old, making it that much harder to successfully locate him, as it is unlikely that he will do much to help himself. Those in the community have rallied together in an attempt to help Smith's family, and have expressed their sadness at the situation.

"I have an autistic son as well. It would be devastating to have my son be missing, and I would want to go out and try to find him and have the help as well," Jackie Romney, a volunteer searcher, said.

If you live in the Southern California near the Riverside area, be on the lookout for the boy. He is 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighs roughly 76 pounds. Anyone with information has been urged to call Riverside County Sheriff's Department at (951) 776-1099.
