Selena Gomez Accused of Copying Video Idea for 'Hands To Myself' From 'My Beautiful Stalker' Screenplay
Selena Gomez is in hot waters after being accused of copying the idea of her popular "Hands to Myself" music video. Did the "Kill Em With" Kindness" singer mean to follow a screenplay?
New Selena
In her new song "Hands to Myself," Gomez portrayed a more daring and mature character. She showed her sexy curves in a steamy video with nothing on but a bra and underwear. In the said video, you will see her getting undressed in a bathtub and kissing with her on-screen partner Christopher Mason.
Although Gomez and Mason were very comfortable with each other on the screen, it seems that the "Love You Like a Love Song" singer still has shame over her character in the music video.
Gomez informed Mason on Twitter when the video was out and teasingly apologized for snooping in his apartment, which was shown in the music video.
The singer admitted that she really wants to give her own rendition of the song because it is among her favorite songs. It is the type of music that she wants to invest in.
Details About the Music Video
Alek Keshishian, a close family friend of the "Hit the Lights" singer, directed the music video. Selena disclosed that in her music video, she wanted to express every girl's fantasy about love that sometimes leads to obsession.
The "Same Old Love" singer recognizes that at times women daydream about the ideal life and the love that they deserve. These thoughts are just at the back of their minds and sometimes they are so influential that they make women think it is what they want, no matter what will happen.
"You get to see these images of what people think love is. It's theatrical, it's movie-like. And all of that you end up seeing ends up being a false reality on both ends. That's what I wanted it to feel like," Selena said.
The Controversy
If many were impressed with the idea of the "Hands to Myself" video about the girl being obsessed with the man in her dreams, one artist was disappointed because she thinks the concept was not original.
"Selena Gomez stole the idea of her 'Hands To Myself' music video from My Beautiful Stalker screenplay," Lambert Moberly of "My Beautiful Stalker," said. "[She] was one of a handful of actresses that were interested in My Beautiful Stalker screenplay."
Selena was among the artists who was considered to play the role of Mia. In the screenplay, the character was so consumed with her desire for love that she pursued and seduced the man she wanted. In the music video, Moberly accused that the character was portrayed as a stalker who is head over heels in love with a popular actor.
However, Gomez's representative denied Moberly's allegations.
