For years, the Bugatti Veyron has been known as the paragon of speed and power amongst hypercars. It has been the gold standard upon which other cars were measured. Now, it seems like the French automaker from the Volkswagen group isn't about to give up the distinction for its prized flagship car.

In fact, the company has taken matters into its own hands by creating the successor for the Veyron, which is deemed better than what was previously the best. Meet the 2017 Bugatti Chiron, "the world's most powerful, fastest, most luxurious and most exclusive production super sports car," the Bugatti group claims.

"It is part of human nature to cross boundaries and set new records -- to run 100 m faster than ever before, to fly even further into space and to enter new realms," says Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. "This striving is also our driving force at Bugatti."

Now that the new Bugatti hypercar is out to overtake the Veyron, let us try to get to know the 2017 Bugatti Chiron a bit more. The photos above are courtesy of NetCarShow's Instagram posts.

The Chiron Boasts of 1500 Horsepower

The new Bugatti will be capable of delivering 300 HP more than its predecessor. The automaker claims that the Chiron is the world's first production sports car with 1500 HP, notes Car and Driver. The 25 percent increase in horsepower is brought about by an engine design with specs of 16-cylinder W configuration, eight liters of displacement and four turbochargers.

The World's Fastest

According to FOX News, the Chiron will be limited to 260 mph on the street as compared to Veyron's 258 mph. The new car is also expected to reach 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 186 mph in under 13.6 seconds, which is faster than the Guinness World Record of 13.63 seconds set by the Hennessey Venom GT.

Fully Carbon-Fiber Unibody

Bugatti claims that "if all the fibres used in the monocoque were laid out end to end, they would stretch nine times the distance between the earth and the moon." The design team took almost a month just produce the unified body and chassis, per Jalopnik.

Limited Production

If you got a penchant for these super cars and would want to get a hold of the Chiron, then you better act fast as there are only 500 of the Bugatti cars that would go on production.

More Expensive than the Veyron

Not only do the potential owners have to act fast, apparently, they also need to belong in the elite circle of the ultra-wealthy individuals. For its release date, the Bugatti Chiron is currently on sale and it amounts to no less than $2.6 million. Now, this is one mass-produced car that is not really for everyone.
