The international trailer to "Batman v. Superman" has been released, showing off new footage and raising questions about how the film will perform when it is released in two weeks.

Batman Terrified in New Footage

While a number of images have already been seen, the new trailer shows off a hooded Batman, appearing to investigate a desert fortress. There are also images of Batman getting a terrifying message that reads "you let your family die" scribbled on a newspaper in red. It's unknown where the message comes from, but it could definitely be related to Jared Leto's Joker, who is set to debut in the summer in "Suicide Squad." Batman will also be in that film, so anything is possible.

The trailer also features new footage of Wonder Woman. She is shown walking down a hallway in black leather, but it is not apparent where she is headed.

What Are the Box Office Predictions?

With this new trailer, it is clear the film will be action packed, as there are lots of explosions and an incredible amount of special effects. However, it is not clear what the film is exactly about.

The major question is: How big an opening will the film have at the box office? Currently, prognosticators project it will open at $159 million, which would be a lot higher than "Man of Steel" and even higher than "The Dark Knight." However, these estimates far precede any reviews, and if word of mouth is not solid, the overall performance of the movie could be affected.

How Will Reviews Turn Out?

Reviews are definitely important but not definitive for a blockbuster of this size. With a franchise this big, Warner Bros. is hoping that fans will go opening weekend, and if they like the movie, they will go to repeat screenings.

However, if word of mouth is low, then diminished returns could be incredibly damaging to the company at the box office. For example, a film like "Avatar" could not have made half of its total box office take had it not been for word of mouth. The same is true of "The Avengers."

"Batman v. Superman" comes with high expectations, but it also comes burdened with baggage, as many fans excited for "Man of Steel" were extremely disappointed by the lackluster storytelling and the overabundance of action. With the latest "Batman v. Superman" trailer so dependent on action and so lacking in story, the new film could end up being a similar turn off.

Warner Bros. is counting on good numbers to launch a series of DC Comics superhero films. "Suicide Squad" is next, followed by "Justice League" and a "Wonder Woman" film.
