'Gilmore Girls' Netlfix Release Date Nears! Cast Gets Mae Whitman, 'Eat Like a Gilmore' Cookbook Underway
If you miss some of your favorite characters from the Stars Hollow, you need not be in a huff anymore as the outlandish but endearing members of the tight-knit Connecticut community are back.
"Gilmore Girls" will reboot on Netlfix and the production, which is taking place somewhere in Los Angeles, is underway. It will wrap up by the end of June and fans can expect a release date sometime in the fall of 2016.
Mae Whitman Joins The Familiar Cast
Mae Whitman is set to join the revival cast. This is interesting to note as Whitman also happened to play the role of Lauren Graham's daughter in Jason Katims' "Parenthood" TV series. Whitman will meet her on-screen sister in Rory Gilmore, played by Alexis Bledel.
But, as to what particular role Whitman is going to play in the upcoming series, has yet to be divulged. Although, she is said to have a brief but fun interaction with Lorelai Gilmore.
Meanwhile, most of the original cast members are set to reprise their respective roles in the Netflix revival. Apart from Graham and Bledel, the returning cast is composed of Scott Patterson as Luke, Kelly Bishop as Emily, Jared Padalecki as Dean, Milo Ventimiglia as Jess, Matt Czuchry as Logan, David Sutcliffe as Christopher, Liza Weil as Paris, Sean Gunn as Kirk, Keiko Agena as Lane, Yanic Truesdale as Michel and Vanessa Marano as April.
The fans of the show, however, are going to miss Richard Gilmore, who was played by Edward Herrmann. The actor, unfortunately, passed away back in 2014. Sookie St. James won't be joining the group either as Melissa McCarthy is currently busy doing the "Ghostbusters" movie.
Team Palladino, made up of "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino, will be at the helm, writing and directing the new series.
The "Gilmore Girls" revival on Netlfix will be composed of four episodes or mini-movies that will run for about an hour and a half each. It will be set more than eight years after the series finale back in 2007. Each of the four episodes will be named after each of the seasons ("Winter," "Spring," "Summer" and "Fall").
The "Eat Like A Gilmore" Cookbook
A cookbook that will feature a collection of recipes inspired by the chefs of Stars Hollow is also in the works, courtesy of Yum! baker and caterer Kristi Carlson, who is a self-confessed "Gilmore Girls" fan.
Carlson launched a Kickstarter Campaign to fund the project. "This idea came to me last summer -- a fun, creative project and a means to combine two of my favorite things: cooking, and life in an imaginary world called 'Stars Hollow'," she said. The recipes range from a s'mores wedding cake to pumpkin pancakes, which Carlson promises to be "utterly delicious."
