A Suffolk County judge has ordered that a cellphone that once belonged to Aaron Hernandez be turned over to his new team of attorneys.

Judge Jeffrey Locke rendered his ruling earlier this month, in response to a request for access by lawyers from the Rankin & Sultan law firm. The phone had been in the possession of Hernandez's previous legal team.

Prosecutors had also been seeking possession of the phone and are hoping that it will provide evidence that could further link the former NFL star to the 2012 double-slaying he is expected to go on trial for later this year.

In that incident, Hernandez is accused of gunning down Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu outside a downtown nightclub in Boston after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on him earlier in the evening and failed to apologize.

Hernandez Already Serving Life Sentence

The former New England Patriots star is already facing life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted last year in the execution style killing of onetime pal Odin Lloyd.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors theorized Hernandez may have shot Lloyd because he knew too much about other violent crimes he is suspected of having been involved in.

Hernandez Mansion Hits the Market

Meanwhile, Hernandez's North Attleborough mansion recently went on the market for a cool $1.5 million. The 5,600 square-foot home sits just a stone's throw away from Gillette Stadium, the home field Hernandez once starred on as a rising tight end with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Video surveillance from the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home was instrumental in the Lloyd case, which ended with Hernandez found guilty and remanded to serve out his sentence at the Souza-Baranowski maximum security prison.

In one video retrieved from the home security system, Hernandez is captured holding what looked like a gun inside the home not long after Lloyd was gunned down.
