Selena Gomez Signs on as Executive Producer of Latino Themed 'Empire' Drama Series
Selena Gomez has signed on with Freeform to executive produce a TV drama series now in production and being hailed as a Latina "Empire."
The untitled drama is set to center on the life of an 18-year-old girl seemingly destined for greatness from her low income Latino neighborhood. Gomez is not slated to act in the series, but will be closely working with industry veteran Aaron Kaplan on the production end of things.
Gomez Making Her Mark in Hollywood
The 23-year-old "Heart Wants What It Wants" singer has recently been looking to up her presence on the Hollywood scene. She was recently spied huddling with A-lister Brad Pitt at a Golden Globes after party, where the two were rumored to be in deep discussion about starring in another film together.
They previously co-starred in "The Big Short," and after recently raving about her abilities Pitt openly shared that he plans to help turn her into Hollywood's new "it Girl."
Word is the Pitt even has a specific project in mind as part of her coming out party.
"He thinks Selena would be a perfect fit for the 'Oceans 11' remake," said a source, adding that Pitt might even be open to pull some strings to land her a role. "He's not producing the film but has close ties with the film's director Gary Ross."
Gomez is also slated to executive produce an upcoming 13-episode series for Netflix based on the young adult novel "13 Reasons Why."
No premiere date has been announced for either project.
