USA vs. Colombia Copa America 2016 Predictions, Preview, Schedule, Streaming Info
Colombia and the United States will begin their respective journeys in the 2016 Copa America Centenario when they face off Friday night at 9:30 PM on the west cost. The game will feature some of the most talented players in the world looking to make a name for themselves in a memorable competition.
The Match
These teams have met in a number of competitions before, but the most famous meeting in the US was the 1994 World Cup that led to a 2-1 U.S. win. That game had tragic consequences and will probably be a hot topic in the lead up to Friday.
But that loss aside, Colombia has had a solid record against the US, winning 11, losing three and drawing another three. In major competitions, Colombia's record is two wins, one draw and one defeat.
Colombia enters the tournament looking for redemption after a putrid showing in last summer's competition. After a potent display at the 2014 World Cup, Colombia scored a measly one goal in four games, getting easily knocked out of the competition without putting up much of a fight. The poor showing was just the beginning of what has been a rough year for James Rodriguez, the man who dominated the 2014 World Cup with his powerful shot, brilliant creativity and overall fun style of play.
After warming the bench at Real Madrid for most of 2015-16, Rodriguez will be looking for redemption in what should be a showcase for him and his country.
The Americans of course have other plans and coach Jurgen Klinsmann knows that this is do or die time for him as coach of the U.S. He has made some progress over the years, but the US has been rather poor in recent years and Klinsmann must produce results lest he wants to lose his job.
Player to watch
James Rodriguez is undoubtedly the man capable of taking control of this match on his own, especially if he is placed where he is most comfortable in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Prediction
Colombia wins 2-1 in a fast-paced thrilling game.
Schedule and Streaming Info
The game will start at 9:30 p.m. EDT on the East Coast and can be seen on Univision or Fox Sports 1 USA. For those looking for streaming services, UniMas, FuboTV or Fox Soccer 2Go.
