During a June 12 broadcast on "Fox and Friends Weekends" host Tucker Carlson questioned the right of undocumented students to receive scholarships to attend U.S. colleges and universities.

While discussing undocumented students with activist and journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, who was educated and lives in the U.S. despite being undocumented himself, Carlson questioned whether it was fair for high school students to receive scholarships regardless of their illegal status.

“Don’t you think that an American citizen who has children trying to get into schools might say ‘Wait a second, why is someone who is an illegal alien getting a scholarship and not my child?'” said Carlson.

Vargas was visibly frustrated by Carlson's comments as he continued to argue that the success of these students is a problem and unfair to American students.

"You can see why people might be offended that she's announcing this and basically giving the finger to the United States that I've flouted your law and I'm getting away with it and there's nothing you can do," Carlson continued.

Carlson's criticism of undocumented students came after two Latina teens, Mayte Lara Ibarra and Larissa Martinez, who both happened to be Valedictorians of their graduating classes, recently revealed that they are undocumented immigrants.

Both Latinas, who were praised for outing themselves but also received much criticism, have received full scholarships. Ibarra will be attending the University of Texas and Martinez will attend Yale.

“This young woman is not taking somebody else’s spot,” said Vargas about Martinez. “She’s not getting special treatment. She is getting that because she graduated as valedictorian.”
