Spain will look to continue its solid start to the Euro 2016 when it takes on Turkey on Friday.

Spain makes solid debut

Spain looked more confident in its debut than it has in years. The current defending champs dominated possession throughout their encounter with the Czech Republic, producing over 600 passes throughout the 90-minute encounter and creating a number of glorious scoring chances that simply lacked the finish.

Yet the signs were encouraging with Vicente del Bosque's men constantly changing up the game plan from a slow possession style to a more direct movement at times. Unlike previous iterations, Spain was unafraid to try out some aerial attacks and managed some good chances and eventually a game winning goal through the air courtesy of Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique.

Yet at the end of the day, Spain's 1-0 win came late in the contest and still remained a nervy experience for fans of La Furia Roja. In past years, particularly at the 2010 World Cup, the Spanish could be counted on to win a game 1-0 all the way to the title. Yet these days, that is simply not enough and the team will need to figure out how to capitalize on its big chances lest the opposition find a way to counter them quickly and efficiently.

Spain's forwards Alvaro Morata and Aritz Aduriz both had their chances during their stints up top but neither capitalized. They must.

Turkey started its tournament losing 1-0 against Croatia.

Player to Watch

Andres Iniesta was the star of the show against the Czech Republic with his incisive passing and overall creativity around the pitch. Yet the team might need more from its forward of choice, whether it be Aduriz or Morata. One of those two needs a bigger game because Gerard Pique is not going to lead this team to victory with his goalscoring.

History says...

Spain holds the edge. The defending Euro champs have won five games against the Turks, lost twice and drawn four times. Turkey has not defeated Spain since 1967.

Prediction

Spain manages another 1-0 win.
