James Rodriguez Transfer News 2016: 4 Reasons Colombia Star Should Stay At Real Madrid
James Rodriguez is reportedly drawing tremendous interest from the English Premier League with West Ham United perhaps the current favorite to land the Colombian's services. Manchester United is also rumored to show interest.
But should the Real Madrid player run off?
Here are some reasons why Rodriguez should stay put in Madrid.
He's an Elite Player at an Elite Club
Rodriguez is one of the best soccer players around. If not top 10, few would argue at his status among the top 20 most potent players in the world. Real Madrid is arguably the best team around and undeniably the team that could best showcase Rodriguez's talents. At Madrid he has tremendous talent to help him get to the next level. He probably lacks that at most Premier League sides.
He had a great first season
People like to go on and on about his second season and his struggles down the stretch, but few remember that he was arguably the most valuable player on the team. When he went down in January and the team started to fall apart. When he came back, Cristiano Ronaldo started to score again (Ronaldo scored five goals the day Rodriguez returned in a 9-2 win over Granada). He was also second in La Liga in Key passes per game and was among the elite in the entire world. He also scored 17 goals, good for third on the team that year.
He can still win back Zidane
Zinedine Zidane reportedly did not like Rodriguez's work ethic and that led to the superstar sitting during the Champions League final. But Rodriguez could put his pride in his wallet and work hard to regain his coach's confidence. Zidane is the kind of coach that will play the best players and Rodriguez can easily show the coach that he belongs on the pitch. He has more talent that his direct competitors Lucas Vasquez and Isco; he is even more durable than Luka Modric who will be 31 in the fall and will likely need more time to rest. Ronaldo is out for who knows how long, leaving the left wing for the taking.
He is versatile
Rodriguez played in the middle under Carlo Ancelotti and has had separate stints on the wings. He offers Madrid something that few other players on the side can. Vasquez is a winger and that is all he can really do. Isco is more versatile but has struggled to assert himself across the lineup. Rodriguez could provide Zidane with a killer option in big moments if the Colombian applies himself.
