John Oliver wants to add to the list of things you don't do beyond certain holidays. With Labor Day 2016 now upon us and the "You don't wear white" after the fact unofficial law in full effect, Oliver recently used his "Last Week Tonight" platform to showcase an expanded set of no-no's he's convinced should be marked by the arrival of certain holidays.

"We should have a rule that, after Thanksgiving, you have to stop decorating your home with gourds," he said. "It's cute in October, it's acceptable but obnoxiously folksy in November, but after that, you're just keeping loose produce lying around. It's not better than adorning your front porch with a bunch of watermelons and carrot sticks. "

No Eggnog After New Year's Eve

In Oliver's world sipping eggnog would also end by New Year's Eve.

"Because if you start your calendar year by consuming a beverage with the density and nutritional value of molten steel, scrap the rest of your resolutions and take care of your [expletive] nog problem," he reasoned.

Meanwhile, Oliver is now facing a bit of backlash stemming from his recent assertion that "Pennsylvania's charter schools are terrible."

State Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams sent the HBO host a "Dear John" letter blasting his claim.

Charter School Controversy

"I really do enjoy your wit and informative style, but you went too far with your segment on Pennsylvania's charter schools," Williams penned, adding that he now plans to refrain from viewing the show altogether.

During the recent telecast, Oliver pointed to Pennsylvania laws in general and Philadelphia schools in particular as prime examples of why he believes charter schools are something of gamble when it comes to education.

"That is not good," he added. "It is not like having the worst 'something' is new for Pennsylvania. Remember, this is the state that has the worst football fans, the worst bell, and the worst regional delicacy."
