The team lost to the U.S., Portugal and drew eventual champion Germany in arguably the most competitive group of the tournament. Prior to that performance, the team managed a quarterfinals berth in 2010 and a round of 16 appearance in 2006. In each of the tournaments, the team has battled the United States, holding a record of two wins and one loss.

Uganda has never been at a World Cup finals.

Only one team from each group manages to qualify for the showpiece in Russia in 2018.
