Philippine President against Steve Harvey hosting Miss Universe 2016
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte expressed unwillingness of Steve Harvey repeating as the host for Miss Universe 2016, following an embarrassing on-air blunder where he named the incorrect winner.
According to a press statement, the country's president ,Rodrigo Duterte, stated on Wednesday that the government was not keen to sponsor the pageant and he has other priorities for the budget such as infrastructure building.
It looks like that Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is still upset and has expressed displeasures with Harvey hosting the show. He does not want to host Harvey in the grand finale of Miss Universe 2016 which will be held in Manila.
Harvey follows an embarrassing on-air blunder last year. At the end of the Miss Universe 2015, he had incorrectly named Miss Columbia as the 2015 winner before retracting his announcement and declaring Miss Philippines as the actual Miss Universe 2015.
The president clearly doesnt want Harvey to host this event. As stated by Tourism secretary Wando Teo, " When I told the president about that , he gave a negative response. He said, 'That can't be! and, I'm going to talk to miss Universe because I don't want him to be the host of the Miss Universe.'"
However ,due to a five-year contract with the Miss Universe Organization, Harvey will remain as host for 2016 Miss Universe Pageant. On this situation, Teo said, "we may add a Filipina to co-host ,so the president will not get mad".
In a press statement on September 1st made by Tourism Secretary Wando Teo, he also stated that Miss Universe 2016 will be held January 30, 2017. The candidates from different parts of the world will be arriving in the country from January 13 onward. Metro Manila is selected for the main event while others part of the event will be held in Davao City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, and Vigan City.
