"Console Wars," a book written by Blake Harris, will be made into a movie by Sony Pictures. The film will be produced Scott Rudin ("The Social Network"). Harris will also be executive producer.

Harris is also tasked to co-direct a documentary about the book. Sony Pictures bought the rights in 2012. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are writing the script and will direct the film, reports SEGAbits. The duo is known for the movies "Pineapple Express," "This is the End" and "Superbad."

The film will depict the struggle for dominance of the video game industry between Nintendo and Sega during the 1990s. At the beginning of that now nostalgic decade, Nintendo was the unquestioned king of the video game arena, but the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a guy who knew almost nothing about video games but knew a great deal about turning around a losing position, changed the game through his original approach. This resulted in a huge showdown between Nintendo and Sega over a place in the homes of the Western world.

The cutthroat and persistent battle that stretched across the world between the two giants was discussed in living rooms, schools, conferences, boardrooms, and even in the United States Congress.

The book, likewise, tells the story of how an unassuming company became a leader in its industry through the leadership of a simple, low-profile family man. He helped motivate a team of second-bests to fight the industry giant that was Nintendo, and was able to bring his company to a too-close-to-call deadlock at the top of a $60 billion industry by using his unique approach coupled with the skill for turning problems into competitive benefits. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the foreword for the book.

The book became available for pre-order on amazon.com on May 13 and will be available on June 19 on amazon.co.uk. No release date for the film has been announced at this time.
