Beauty products can often be pricey and unsafe. Late last year, for example, a study found that nearly 100 shampoos and soaps had cancer-causing chemicals. For these reasons and more, more people are now turning to natural beauty products. Here are some of the best natural beauty substitutes:

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is supposed to do just about everything from a moisturizer to a shaving cream and even as a cheekbone highlighter. Tip: after you've applied makeup, swipe coconut oil onto the area, and just let it be.

One of the most popular uses for coconut oil is oil pulling, where you swish oil in your mouth for 20 minutes and then spit it out into the garbage. Oil pulling is supposed to whiten teeth and make you overall healthier. There are other uses for coconut oil, such as deep-conditioner and makeup remover.

2. Strawberries

Strawberries are more than just delicious; they can whiten you teeth. Mix a crush ripened strawberry and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Use a toothbrush to put the mixture on your teeth, and leave it for about five minutes. After that, you should brush your teeth with regular toothpaste. Repeat the process once a week.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Before you wash your hair, use apple cider vinegar. Leave it in for about five minutes and then rinse it for an anti-dandruff treatment. Once you wash your hair, the smell of vinegar will also be gone.

4. Oatmeal

Mix ½ cup of cooked oatmeal, a whole egg and a tablespoon of almond oil for a natural face mask. Leave it on for 15 minutes.

5. Brown sugar

Brown sugar is softer than white sugar, so it's perfect for a facial scrub. Get 1 cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of virgin coconut or olive oil and 10-15 drops of essential oils. Mix the items and rub on your clean and wet face. Scrub gently for about 2 minutes.
