Comedian Frank Skinner, who has been eyeing a role in the show for a while now, is set to guest star as a leading role in an upcoming episode of the new series of "Doctor Who." Skinner will be appearing in an episode of Season 8, where Peter Capaldi will play the Doctor for the first time. Being a longtime fan of the television show, he expressed excitement for finally having been given a chance to play a role. Producer Steven Moffat mentioned that it's actually no secret that Frank had been trying vigorously to land a role for a while now. He even volunteered several times to do minor roles such as "the third monster on the left" since Moffat started his job as producer.

With the new and brilliant script by Jamie Mathieson, the team finally has a part that can perfectly showcase the wit and charm of Frank Skinner, which he is famous for. Mathieson, also a writer for the television show "Being Human", is not unfamiliar with Skinner, saying that he is "very cool." The comedian also served as inspiration for Mathieson in following his career. Talking about "Doctor Who," Skinner admits that he absolutely loves it. He has a subscription to the Doctor Who magazine, a cardboard Dalek standing five feet tall in his bedroom, and a Tardis ringtone.

As of the moment, no details were revealed as to the character Skinner will play. Currently, Skinner is on tour around the U.K., doing his stand-up show "Frank Skinner: Man in a Suit." He is also the host of BBC One's "Room 101" and for the Radio Academy Award-winning "Breakfast Show" on Absolute Radio. He was in the back of his tour bus watching an episode of "The Sensorities" when he got the call. The new series is set to begin in autumn. Skinner will be joining previously announced guest actors including Ben Miller, Kelley Hawes, and Samuel Anderson.
