Those who missed "Flappy Bird" will surely be happy to know that it is returning this August. Dong Nguyen, the developer, made the announcement, but warned players to play this habit-forming game only during their free time. Flappy Bird's new edition will feature a multi-player component. Nguyen also announced modifications intended to make the game less addictive, but did not specify what they entail.

Last February, Nguyen withdrew "Flappy Bird" from Google Play and Apple's App Store although it resulted to missing out on profits. His decision was reportedly motivated by the increasing consequences of gaming addiction among those who had gotten hooked to the game. The developer insisted that he created "Flappy Bird" as a form of relaxation and not to make obsessive players for of it. But stories about players forgetting other duties (most often homework or studying) and wasting long stretches of time on it kept him up at night. He originally vowed never to bring the game back after deciding that removing it was the only ethical thing to do about the problem. Nguyen admitted that he felt relieved when the game was removed from online shops, knowing that people will have more time to be more creative and useful instead of aiming to score high with the game.

However, he appears to have changed his tune about how reasonable a goal it is to fix the game, which was originally released in May 2013. At that time, players were merely to flap the bird's wings to fly it clumsily around narrow passages of pipes. The game's simple but deviously challenging gameplay was a sensational hit, attracting a huge range of players around the globe with downloads reaching over 50 million. It stole the limelight once again when it was taken out by Nguyen from App stores.

Several game makers have released duplicates of "Flappy Bird" since its removal; more than one of them became popular as well.

No other details were divulged by Nguyen on the new edition, who is currently working on new games.
