Music has lost one of its best icons. George Michael passed away on Christmas at the age of 53 on Christmas morning due to heart failure. People always remember his legendary Christmas song "Last Christmas" and this year's Christmas is really the last for the superstar.
Fans were shocked by the sudden death of Michael, whose musical career started rising to fame when he and Andrew Ridgeley formed a group WHAM! in the 1980s. Some famous musicians, actors, actresses, and TV personalities expressed their condolences on Twitter, Mirror reported.
Michael was born from Greek parents. His real name is Georgios Panayiotou. When he was a teenager, he formed a group WHAM! with Andrew Ridgeley, who was his school friend.
The pair rose to fame with some hit singles such as Wake Me Up (Before You Go-Go), Last Christmas, Club Tropicana, and Young Guns. Wham! made a headline by performing in communist state China in 1985. But the group split after the 1986 concert in Wembley. Since then, Michael pursued his solo career and enjoyed a remarkable success. His album" Faith" was released in 1987 and gained an international success.
He also collaborated with a queen of soul Aretha Franklin" I Knew You Were Waiting" and Elton John with "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". But people will never forget his amazing vocal skills when he did a cover of Queen's "Somebody To Love" during the tribute to Freddy Mercury in 1992 at Wembley stadium.
Despite his shining musical achievements, it seems fans are also wondering about Michael's personal life. Unfortunately, his troubled personal life doesn't seem to match with his success in musical career.
Michael had refused to reveal his sexuality for a long time. In the 1990s, he had a relationship with Anselmo Feleppa, a Brazilian fashion designer. Feleppa then died from HIV. Michael's song "Jesus To A Child" was a tribute to the late designer.
Then Michael was reported to have a relationship with a flight attendant named Kenny Goss, whom he met in 1996. They were arrested in 1998 after engaging in a lewd act. This incident forced the superstar to reveal his sexuality.
Unfortunately, Michael's drug addiction often made headlines in the 2000s, like in 2006 and 2008. He was banned from driving after pleading guilty in 2010 that he was under the influence of the drugs and charged with cannabis possession, according to Skysports.
In 2007, he also made a shocking confession that he used to sleep with lots of women but never engaged in a serious relationship because he realized that he was a gay man.
Actress Brooke Shields had a brief relationship with Michael at very young age. As Shields wrote in her book, she praised Michael as "a very patient gentleman".
Even though Michael didn't have an own child, he had a godson named James Kennedy. who was known for his role in the Bravo reality show Vanderpump Rules? Kennedy's father, Andros Georgiou, was Michael's friend for a long time.
Michael was about to release his documentary called Freedom: George Michael in March 2017. The superstar was allegedly to have a relationship with celebrity hairdresser Fadi Fawaz.
