Soccer Transfer Rumors & News: Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Could Spend on Cesc Fabregas This Summer
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to spend again this summer, which could lead to a reunion with Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Mirror UK recently reported that Barcelona will listen to offers for Fabregas this summer, but the Gunners will have a role in any negotiations involving the 27-year-old midfielder.
According to reports, the Gunners have the right to first refusal on Fabregas as part of the deal that sent the former Arsenal captain to Camp Nou three years ago.
It means that Barcelona will have to inform the Gunners about any offers made for Fabregas, but reports indicated that the Arsenal will not let other teams get into the picture as they are also planning to make a strong push to reacquire Fabregas this summer.
"It is understood Arsenal are watching developments closely and would consider moving in if Fabregas became available with Barca likely to sell to offers in excess of £35m," Mirror UK reported.
Money will not be an issue for Arsenal as club director Lord Harris told The Times that Wenger will be allowed to spend big time again this summer -- even bigger than club's transfer record set last summer when they spent £42.5 million to acquire Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal's spending spree last summer produced good results this season winning the FA Cup, their first title since 2005, while also finishing fourth in the English Premier League.
"We want to win the Premier League and the Champions League. If we buy two or three players, then I think we can," Harris said via ESPN FC. "We want to win. We don't want to be second, we don't want to be third and we don't want to be fourth. We will support Arsene with the players he wants to buy."
Harris insisted that Wenger can buy the player he wants outside of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
"If Arsene has asked for any player then we have always backed him to go and buy. With the exception of Messi, Ronaldo or Bale, we could buy most players," Harris added.
