Edinson Cavani Transfer to Manchester United News: Could Uruguayan Replace Wayne Rooney?
Is Manchester United interested in Paris Saint-German forward Edinson Cavani?
According to numerous reports, the English side is looking to purchase the Uruguayan star from the French club in order to bolster its ailing offense.
The news is rather shocking considering the fact that United's primary need is in the midfield and defense. The team has been plagued with an inconsistent pace and rhythm. On the back end, the team has been riddled with mistakes and a lack of structure that was most evident in the team's 3-1 loss against Chelsea on Sunday. Current manager David Moyes was reportedly interested in buying a midfielder all summer long and was linked to Cesc Fabregas throughout. In the end, he wound up with Marouane Fellaini who was been nothing short of a bust for the club.
So where does Cavani fit in? Nowhere at the moment. Wayne Rooney's future with the club is dubious at best, but the Englishman has been the team's best player in 2013-14 thus far. If Rooney is leaving it is not because his role with the club is uncertain. If Rooney leaves United, it will be because he does not believe that Moyes is capable of building this club back into the contender it was under Sir Alex Ferguson. Another reason why Cavani might be an option is if the team is looking to sell Javier Hernandez. The Mexican has struggled to earn playing time and has rarely seemed like a future franchise star.
Ultimately the move seems unlikely, especially when one factors in the fact that PSG acquired Cavani this summer for over 70 million euros, a price that would be too high for most clubs-even Manchester United. The move for Cavani was made to have a ready replacement for 32-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the event that the Swede retired or left the club; Ibrahimovic is known for leaving clubs shortly after joining them.
